OVO Energy

OVO was launchd in the UK in 2009 focussing on great service, affordable pricing and access to more renewable energy. Now the largest independent retailer in the UK supplying energy from renewable sources to over 5 million households.

In late 2019, we launched in Australia with the same green approach.

When you join OVO Energy, they will commit to purchasing the equivalent of 10% of your electricity usage from renewable energy generators as standard. This is at no extra charge to you, and is audited under the government’s GreenPower scheme.

GreenPower is a government scheme which certifies electricity coming from accredited renewable energy generators like wind, solar, water and bioenergy.

100% Carbon Neutral
Ovo Energy assess the full life cycle of retailing electricity to their customers; this includes all emissions released in the four key stages of energy retail (generation, transmission, our business activities and then finally, supply).

They then purchase carbon offset certificates for their customers’ entire emissions, from internationally recognised schemes that are accredited by the Clean Energy Regulator and include reforestation, renewable energy or energy efficiency schemes.

Why Choose OVO Energy?

OVO Interest Rewards
This is just OVO Energy’s way of thanking customers for keeping their account in credit.
Since their tariff is bill smoothed at certain points of the year, customers are likely to build up credit – Ovo Energy believe that if they’ve got your money, it’s only right to pay you interest on it.

As an example, if a customer is in credit when they generate their statement, OVO Energy work out their Interest Reward based on the credit balance in that statement. The customer won’t actually see the payment as a line item on their bill until their next statement.

The amount of interest paid is based on the amount of days between the two statements – OVO Energy automatically calculate the Interest Reward that is due to the customer and credit this to their account.

Customers start with a 3% interest reward in their first year. In year 2, OVO Energy increase this to 4% and then it’s 5% for year 3 and beyond. Essentially, the longer a customer stays with OVO Energy, the more they say thank you.

Note: OVO Energy only ever pay interest if the account is in credit and will never apply interest to debit balances. The maximum credit balance OVO Energy will pay Interest Reward on is $1,500 and customers must not make payments into their account just to receive the OVO Interest Reward. All information regarding OVO Energy has been provided to us directly from the retailer

How do I know this energy company is above board if I've never heard of them?

The Australian energy regulator ensures that every single supplier follows the same rules and regulations, so all Australians have a fair chance of finding an energy company to suit their needs. This is especially important for those who want smaller, lesser-known providers because they can trust in the fact that these companies will be held accountable by law if something goes wrong with their service.

Do I need to cancel my Direct Debit?

When you decide to close your account with your current provider, the company will send you a final bill and the company cancels the direct debit after taking the final payment. If there are any funds in credit on your previous plan, they should notify you so they can transfer these back into your bank account or send me the money via cheque.

Are there any hidden energy costs?

No, our service is completely free for all customers. This covers everything from visiting our website or calling our call centre to Little Less providers online at the click of a button. We are here to provide you with competitive energy deals and services from our panel of providers.

Is the service from Little Less free?

Yes. it is completely free to Little Less’s customers. We get paid a commission by your new gas and electricity provider.

How does Solar energy work?

Solar Panels are made up of many solar cells, which convert sunlight directly into electricity. A photovoltaic (PV) module is a packaged connected assembly of typically 6×10 photovoltaic solar cells but may have as many as 72 cells. Solar panels generate electricity when light shines on the array of panels. The amount generated depends upon how much power or energy the sun provides to the area where they are mounted.

Can you connect my energy if I am moving house?

Yes, we can compare & connect you to a retailer of your choice. Connections usually require at least one business day notice, there may be a connection fee passed through to you. This is not from us; this is charged from the distributor & will be applied to your first energy bill.

When I switch providers will my gas or electricity be interrupted?

There may not be any interruption to your supply of electricity or gas. This is because they will continue to be supplied by the same energy distributor. All that really changes is the name of the energy retailer that issues your energy bills.
